Magazine Poster Attempt #1

I have started editing my poster for the magazine. This is the image before I started editing:

The first thing I did was crop the image, so that it wasn't too horizontal. A convention of many posters is that the image used for the magazine is also the image for the front cover of the digipak, so this means it will be square. I also added the name of the band, and the name of the song, "Bleeding Out".

Next, I added some critics reviews. These are in white, because the colour of the image is darker. It makes the writing stand out, so people will be drawn into read it. By using well known magazines in the music industry, such as NME and Rolling Stone, people will recognise these names, and trust their judgement of the album or single. The final thing I have added so far, is a website address for the artist.

The final thing I did, was change the "new single" to "new album", so I could then add "featuring the singles..." I thought this would look better, as it fills up some of the empty space. I don't think I'll keep it in black though, because it gets harder to read. However, I'm not sure that I want it white as well, because the colours seem to show a contrast between the actual album and the critics reviews.

I will maybe change the placing of the critics reviews, because it doesn't quite fit yet. However, I'm happy with where this is going so far.

Ancillary Task: Poster

This is the image I want to use for my magazine poster:

Clearly, I haven't started editing it yet, but I'm planning to have the name of the artist on the top left corner, where it is white. The difficulty I think I'll have is the fact that there are a lot of dark colours, but using a light font for the writing may clash.
The image will probably need to be cropped, so it is a square rather than a rectangle- this is because, from my research, I have found that most of the time the poster and the front cover of the digipak tend to be the same.

Behind the Scenes Research

I have always been intrigued as to how film makers get the job done. Whenever I get a DVD, I get excited if there is the bonus feature of having a "Behind the Scenes", or a "Gag Reel" option, because they make the final product look even more fantastic.

This is the behind the scenes video for "Up" by Olly Murs and Demi Lovato. The reason I chose this video is because of the use of the track that allows the camera to go around the set in circles. It shows how quite a simple set can be really creative.

We have footage of some of the behind the scenes of our music video, and are currently editing that together when there is spare time, because I think it is an important aspect of the process to show to the audience. We will also be able to use this in our evaluation at the end, to see where we did things well, or what could have been improved.

Ancillary Task Plans

During times when editing has been slow, I've been researching  and planning the ancillary tasks.

This is the cover of "Continued Silence", the EP by Imagine Dragons. I really like this style, especially because it fits with our music video, and I think  it would work as a magazine poster. The differences we would make, however, would be to not have the person floating, but have our singer standing with his back to the camera. I would probably have his name and the title of the album at the bottom, along with the reviews and release date. These are the sorts of conventions you find in magazine posters. However, most of the time the artist's face will be the centre of the poster. Here are some of our initial sketches of ideas for the poster:
